My research explores the varieties of national identities in the United Kingdom since the 1870s. I'm particularly interested in the nature of Britishness - a national identity encompassing a number of nations, in various degrees, since the 18th century.
I am currently exploring the representation of the beefeaters at the Tower of London as icons of Britishness.Gin will not be ignored in my research.
Linked to this I am also working on Americanization and British society in the 20th century.
